Proud Mother Moment - or two - or three!

Never a day goes by when I'm not proud of my kids.  Most of those moments happen quietly between us and I tell them "good job" or "well done". Because honestly, they never cease to amaze me.  They are kind, considerate, responsible, smart and talented and most of the time I am in awe of who they are and who they are becoming.  It's quite humbling to know that they are amazing kids and that no matter how many times I think that I'm a terrible parent, they still learn to adapt.  They are who they are and I am so proud of each and every one of them.

However, every once in a while, something happens and I get to shout my pride from the rooftops.  Today is one of those days.  A few posts ago, I told you all about the fantastic game that Jordan and her team from Northwest University played against Concordia.  With the help of her defense, she was on fire in the goal and she played one of her best games ever for Northwest University.  Turns out I wasn't the only one that thought so.  On Monday, she was awarded the Cascade Conference Defensive Player of the Week and on Tuesday, she was awarded the National  Defensive Player of the Week.  To top it off, the Seattle Times even wrote about her and the award in the sports brief yesterday.  I know that she isn't comfortable with the attention and that she wishes they could award the honors to her whole defense, but I am stinkin' proud of her!  The fact that she wants to share it with her defense and just wants to get back in the goal and play some more --- that is even more awesome.

So, just for the record --- I love you Jordan and I couldn't be more proud of the person you are!

Silhouette & Imaginisce - A Perfect Pair!

I love my Silhouette - it is a work horse and has been turning out wall vinyl and scrapbook embellishments for me for over 4 years.  I have one of the original machines.  When I first purchased it, I was drawn in to what it could cut out of paper and all the amazing titles I could create with my computer fonts.  I thought, even then, that my options were limitless.  I was right of course, but now this machine is so much more.  The beauty of it for me, is that just by updating the software (free, I might add), I can now....cut regular and fuzzy vinyl, cut paper and transparencies, design t-shirt transfers, create templates for adding bling, print and cut thousands of designs, and even create and change the designs to fit my needs.  The new software is amazing and so easy to use.  So when Silhouette teamed up with Imaginisce and asked me for a few samples, I was happy to oblige!

This layout was created with both some basic cut designs and some of the newer print and cut designs-- and of course the fabulous Cottage Christmas Collection:

This card was created with the Apple Cider Collection:

Today on both blogs, the Imaginsce Blog and the Silhouette Blog, you can see more fun stuff and leave comments for a chance to win fun Silhouette and Imaginisce giveaways!

Ahh.. for the love of soccer

We are a sports family, but we have a soft spot for soccer.  There is nothing better than watching our girl in goal play her heart out and come out victorious.  Yesterday was no exception.  Now granted, NU didn't pull off the win, but they did pull off a 0-0 tie in overtime against the division leaders, Concordia University.  Concordia hasn't seen a tie in over 60 games, and their record over those years was 58-2.  In fact, the fans in Oregon didn't even know what to make of the tie.  They were flocking to the exits before they realized that there would be two 10-minute overtime periods.  The NU girls played with nonstop energy for 110 minutes.  It was amazing.  They were determined and focused and it showed on the field.  Here is the write-up in the Conference paper:

PORTLAND, Ore. – For 110 minutes, Northwest’s defense held against top-ranked Concordia’s offense as the two teams dueled to a scoreless tie in Cascade Collegiate Conference women’s soccer action Saturday night at Delta Park.
With the tie, Concordia’s record moves to 13-0-2 overall and 6-0-1 in conference play. Northwest’s record goes to 6-2-3 overall and 3-1-1 in the CCC.
The Eagles’ Jordan Holmes (Mountlake Terrace, Wash./Edmonds-Woodway H.S.) earned the shutout against the Cavaliers, with six saves in the contest. Tori Talbutt (Boise, Idaho/Capital H.S.) finished with three saves to earn the shutout for the Cavs.
The first half stats reflected a balance between the two teams, with each compiling five shots. From halftime on, however, it was all defense for Northwest as the Cavaliers outshot the Eagles 12-1 in the second period and 5-0 in the two overtimes. Concordia also held a 9-1 corner kick advantage in the match.
The tie marks the first time in five meetings that Concordia has not defeated Northwest. In their four previous games, the Cavaliers won all four matches by a combined score of 12-0.
Concordia had not posted a tie in a conference match since the 2004 season, when the Cavs tied Evergreen State 0-0 on Sept. 29, in Olympia. The Cavaliers had gone 60 consecutive conference matches without a tie since then, posting a record of 58-2-0 in that stretch.
The Cavaliers twice had shots narrowly miss the net by hitting a part of the goal. Kaitlynn Tebbs (Bend, Ore./Bend H.S.) knocked a shot off the crossbar in the 28th minute of play, and Tahlia O’Loughlin (Boise, Idaho/Borah H.S.) hit one off the left post in the 54th minute.
Concordia returns to action Oct. 23, when the Cavaliers visit Warner Pacific for a conference matchup scheduled for noon in Portland. Northwest travels to Ashland, Ore., for its next contest, Oct. 22 at 2 p.m. against Southern Oregon.

It was totally worth the 7 hours of driving to get there.  Here are some game shots:

I love this one with the smile on Jordan's face.  Even in the midst of all the tension and determination, it's obvious to me that this is where she belongs.  It's her goal, her place and her passion.

This is a fun series of pics too - check out how in sync Jordan and her defender are!

Toward the end of the first overtime as the sun was setting - hundreds of ducks came from out of nowhere to cover the sky, it was an amazing site.  I was able to catch the tail end of the it after getting my camera back out:

We couldn't be prouder of Jordan and her team.  They rose to the challenge and held their own against the top team in the division.  They were close, oh so close, to even coming out on top.  Proud of you girls!

Reminisce Weekend!

What a fabulous time I had last weekend!  I flew into Iowa to spend a fun weekend with all the folks from Reminisce and their Design Team!  We had so much fun!  There was lots of scrappin', food, and laughter, it was just an amazing time!   My favorite part was getting to meet everyone in person and adding to my family of friends in the scrapbooking community.  Matt and Andria  are wonderful and their generosity was overflowing. They have created an amazing company and hired the best staff ever!  I'm very grateful to Meagan for all her hard work and planning and to Denise, one of their designers, who went above and beyond to get me to and from the airport. The weekend was nonstop fun and activity and everyone made me feel so welcome!

Meeting the other DT members was icing on the cake.  What a wonderful group of ladies!  Especially my roomie, Lynne. Tons of congrats to her for her new DT adventure with IOD!  She is going to rock their line!

I managed to get a few layouts done while I was there - but I can only share one with you:

I was so excited to get to do some shopping in their warehouse so I could pick up some more of this line, Unwritten, it's one of my all time favorites!

So, one more time ---- a big THANK YOU to Matt & Andria, the owners of Reminisce, for going out of theri way to make us feel welcome and appreciated!  You are the best!

Imaginisce Sketch - October - Time for Fun!

Oh my it's October already! Why am I always shocked when the calender turns over to a new month? Really, why? I should be used to the passing of time but, I'm not. Somedays I just feel like I am walking through life with my eyes closed - just stepping one foot in front of the other. Then I wake up and it's a new month! I need to figure out how to see every step I take - really see. Hmmmmm.....I think I will add that to my to-do list. It can be item number 38.

Anyway, I digress! October brings tons of fun new stuff in the scrappin' world and today, it's all about Imaginisce! October brings a new sketch challenge with a sketch by Cindy Stevens:
