May Kit from Dixie Pieces!

This year is just whipping by --- May Day already? WOW --- a third of the year over and only a month left of this school year. I have been homeschooling since 1995 that's 15 years and I have 8 more to go until Luke graduates from high school --- I remember that first year. I never thought that I'd make it through the year without going crazy! Now I know I'd go crazy if I didn't homeschool. Funny how the Lord makes everything work in our lives.

But, I digress ---- May 1st. Yep, another wonderful kit from Dixie Pieces Kit Club!

Aren't those colors fabulous? There was so much to play with this month! This kit really got my mojo flowing! You can get a look at the kit on the home page.

National Scrapbook Day Events!

I wish I could say that I was scrappin' with friends all day this Saturday, but having National Scrapbook Day in the middle of baseball season is not condusive to taking the day off to play. However, there is tons going on and I will be in and out all day having fun and keeping in tune with all my scrappin' friends. At least, I can feel creative via everyone else! So, what's on the schedule? Let me tell you!

Dixie Pieces Kit Club is having a "My Day, My Way" crop to celebrate. There will be games, challenges, specials, and tons of fun all day starting at 6am Pacific Time. Of course there will also be a fabulous prize valued at over $100 up for grabs! You get entries into the prize drawing for every challenge or game you participate in! What makes this day even better, is that all the challenge are being created by our members! That's right --- the Design Team doesn't even have a clue on what they are! There are still acouple of spots left if you want to offer a challenge yourself. You automatically get 5 entries into the prize drawing just for doing that! You even get about 10 days to complete the challenges!

Over at A Walk Down Memory Lane we are having a blog hop! All the design team members will be issuing challenges on their blogs and if you participate there will be a fun prize! You will have until May 4th for this one! Be sure to check in on the blog bright and early on Saturday to start hoppin'!

Last but not least, My Sketch World Challenge Blog is having a month long crop! That's right - a whole month! We will be kicking off the festivities on National Scrapbook Day and then celebrating all month! You can sign up to play along- just follow the link in the blog and have some fun!

So, I want all of you to have some fun this National Scrapbook Day -- and have some extra fun for me too!

Really -- a week?

A whole week? Yes, a whole week. I'm sorry, but if it makes a difference --- the next week will bring at least a post a day! I have been swapped with baseball, birthday parties, a husband with an injury and Design Team assignments - most that I can't share - but I will make it up to you!

Let's see --- baseball.

Austin -- Austin came in as a relief pitcher in the bottom of the 2nd inning with bases loaded and 2 outs. The other team had already scored 11 runs. It wasn't pretty. But, he was on his game. In the next 4 innings, he faced only 14 batters and retired 13 of them. He only allowed one hit, didn't walk anyone, and struck out 4. The rest grounded out or popped out after thinking they could hit his curve ball. Yeah, right. The team still lost the game 11-6 but the other team left scratching their heads and wondering where he came from! I loved every moment of it.

Chase -- Chase's team is doing fabulous! Coach Todd has them working like one unit and I have to admit, I didn't see the season playing out this way. They are like 10-2 and Chase has been playing a lot of 1st base, 2nd base and left field. His bat is coming around and he has been smoking it. His RBI count is somewhere in the high teens and he can really be counted on to do what it takes. Best of all, he loves the game and can learn from everything, good or bad.

Luke -- Luke's team is a work in progress. David is the assistant coach and he arrives home pretty frustrated on a daily basis. It's tough at that age when the kids don't want to be there and they certainly don't want to pay attention or be disciplined. Luke and Jonathan are the role models and try to keep the other kids from hanging their heads, voicing their opinions, or being distracted. It's a pretty tall order. On a good note, Luke pitched his first 2 innings the other day and did a great job. On top of that, he has laid down 2 perfect bunts for base hits. Everything in time, right?

My baby turned ten last weekend -- yes, my baby -- is ten. Ugh, is all I can say about that. Just imagine - in 10 more years, he will be away at college and the house will be empty. I just can't wrap my head around that. But it does make me try to slow life down and enjoy every moment that my kiddos want to be with me. I try to sit every night and cuddle with at least on of them -- yes, cuddle. I am blessed that they will still sit with me and put their heads on my shoulder and hang out.

Here is a picture for you:

Check back tomorrow for a rundown of all the National Scrapbook Day Festivites that I have planned!

Wedding Pics & a Mini-Album Tutorial!

Well, it's about time --- been married almost 24 years and still no wedding album! There is an explanation. Our wedding was low budget and we had no formal photographer and what I ended up with was a big pile of crappy snapshots - none of which really do anything to help me remember the day.

But, when I received this wonderful product from Imaginisce, I knew it was time to do a little something with at least a few of my photos! Love & Cherish is a gorgeous black & white product line that is perfect to pair with any wedding photos!

Kim - Love & Cherish - Our Wedding Day Mini Cover

I only had a few photos and they were all low quality and not able to be enlarged. So, I decided to make my own 6 x 6 album. You can't really tell from the above photo, but each page of my album contains some filler between 2 pieces of paper stitched together. This creates fun dimension and a cushion to each page.

Supplies needed:

12 pieces of 6 x 6 patterned paper
6 pieces of foam batting or thick fabric 5.5 x 5.5
Sewing machine
2 rings - can be any size over 1 inch
12 tags - can be any size
Misc embellishments & ribbon

Step #1 - Gather all supplies and determine order of paper

mini 1

Step #2 - I usually use regular batting for the stuffing --- but I had a scrap of fleece left over from another project. It worked perfect.

mini2

Step #3 - Working on wrong side of a 6 x 6 sheet - evenly place & adhere both tags so that top of tags stick out about 1 to 1.5 inches. Make sure to measure the distance from the bottom of the tags to the edge of the paper so that you can make every page the same.

mini 3

Step #4 - place batting on top of tags.

mini4

Step 5 - Place top piece of patterned paper on top and stitch all the way around the edge. Pull bottom thread to top and tie off.

Step 6 - Repeat for all 6 pieces of mini album.

mini5

Step #6 - Insert rings and decorate!

Baseball!

Baseball is life in our house from March through August and then some. Funny thing thought, I always think I will have plenty of days to get photos and then the season is over and I have only a handful! So this year, I made a committment to take some every week and document all the fun we have at the games! So far ---- all I have is player pics, but I am hoping that will change with the games this week!

Imaginisce LOVE & CHERISH!

TLC Collection Image

Isn't that gorgeous? I have been playing with it all week and it is fantastic! The classic black & white with the different shimmers and shines --- yummy!

a sweet team

I created the flowers with the SNAG 'em Stamps and I just love how they turned out! I stamped and embossed them on different pieces of the patterned paper and then used my water colors to match the picture. The water colors curled the flower petals perfectly and then I popped them off my page with 3-D pop-dots.

I created a few smaller items too - a wedding planner journal with ribbon book mark:

Color Challenge!

It's Color Challenge time over at the WALK DOWN MEMORY LANE DT blog! I just couldn't help myself --- what colors come to mind for me when I think of spring here in the Northwest? Tulip and daffodils are always my first thought - especially brilliant reds and yellows. So those 2 colors were easy --- the third color? Hehehe --- anyone who has ever walked through the tulip fields of Skagit Valley know that you need your mud boots because it is still one big mud puddle up here until at least May! So, my third color? BROWN -- yep, mud brown! For my sample, I went with red, yellow and kraft paper!

You can ckeck out the challenge and play along over on the DT blog but I wanted to share my sample with you:

Jordan had a great time in Disneyland with the Williams last January and I love all the fun pics that I have to scrap!

Can I just say again...

... how great the online store is over at A Walk Down Memory Lane? I know that you are thinking that I love it because I am doing some DT work for her --- but, really --- I LOVE IT! Ever since the Scrap-Diner closed, I have searched for a really good --- and I mean really good --- online store to order from. Lisa has EVERYTHING --- all the new paper & embellishments, tons of great stamps, Copic Markers and supplies, and all the tools and adhesives you would every need! Top that off with great monthly sales and it is one stop shopping! You get the idea, right? Go over and check it out -- you will be hooked!

I had time today to play with some great stuff that I ordered last month:

Lil' Robots is just perfect for these pics of Luke and his Bionicle obsession. The pictures were taken over a year ago but the obsession lives on! I truly believe he has every Bionicle every created and then some!

The rest of Spring Break!

We stayed fairly close to home over the break --- the weather was crazy with wind & rain storms rolling in almost hourly. We did venture out one day with a trip to the zoo with Tami, Kim & their kiddos. Even with the rain, it was a great time:

To wrap up our lazy week of no school we spent Easter Sunday with the family over at Debbie's for brunch. The big news of the day was that Lacie went into labor while we were all there and little Ms. Paige made her debut into the world at 9:30pm last night! I am so stinkin' excited to meet her - hope to have pictures to share soon!

But, my mind wanders -- babies will do that to me :) --- here are some shots from Easter:

Of course, an Easter Egg Hunt with candy wasn't enough --- we had to do a hay hunt with coins for the kids! Can you say spoiled?

Sad - Spring Break is Over!

Yep, it's back to the grind tomorrow. Work, School, sports and all the other committments that keep us crazy busy. What would be do without them all? Oh, wait ---- that's called summer! Let the countdown begin!

Even though we stayed pretty close to home this break, I did manage to get some fun pics along the way! Going to break up these posts over the next few days!

Last weekend we spent some time with good friends over at their home in Hood Canal --- despite the rain, we had a great time. Good food, good friends, and good laughs ---- that's all we ever need! We even had an early Easter Egg Hunt:

egg hunt 2 5-7

Yes, even Travis joined in on the hunt!

There was so much candy --- it was overflowing out of everyone's baskets. Massive amounts for everyone!

austin candy 5-7

Then the kids decided to play a little Texas Hold 'em with their candy stashes. Seemed harmless enough. Yeah, right. Right after this sweet picture was taken with smiles all around -----

poker

disaster happened.

See that pair of aces on the board? Well, one child - who shall remain nameless - had another ace in his hand. Thinking there was no way he could lose, he bet almost all his candy. Well, guess what? His opponent, who had no idea what he was doing, ended up with a straight and won all the candy! Oh, my gosh --- you would have thought the world ended. Needless to say, we had an impromptu lesson on the horrors of gambling and us parents chalked that up to a lesson learned. We won't be allowing that again anytime soon!

Some more fun shots from the day:

These two girls always make my day --- they make me laugh, keep me in line, and remind me how much fun it is to have sisters! I wish we got a chance to hang out more often!

It was so much fun to have all the kids together again --- seems like yesterday that Luke & Richie were learning to walk, Travis was learning to drive the tractor, and Jordan was learning to play Gin Rummy. We love you DIck & Julie and we miss you every day! We love your log cabin hideaway but we wish everyday that you were still next door!

That was weekend number one of spring break! More to come tomorrow!
